Taylor asked very good open ended questions that forced me to distill professional issues and take a fresh look at some of my assumptions and self-narrative. She did a good job of coaching towards exploring a solution, rather than being proscriptive or consultative; I think this was particularly helpful because I was concerned coaching would be more like taking specific advice from a coach with a different professional background that might be off base. Turned out to be extremely helpful because it forced me to really distill what was on my mind in order to have an effective conversation.

Well, I got a promotion! This was something that was discussed, but also something I had come to accept was not in the cards. We often talked about “what does self-advocacy” look like? ... I honestly believe that through the coaching sessions, I was able to identify opportunities where I could play in the middle, or at least be more aware of the spectrum and play where I was most comfortable at the moment. Instead of pushing for a promotion, I pushed to make my work more visible to other leaders. I took more of an active and vocal role, rather than a passive one. And I think that led to the right people believing I was deserving of advancement.

Truthfully, I was initially skeptical of leadership coaching, however, once I started talking and more importantly listening to Taylor my skepticism vanished entirely. Her insights, questions, and gentle but firm prodding helped me assess and thrive in difficult work situations. I cannot recommend her enough and I think she is a wonderful leadership coach.
